This is TORN ASUNDER
TORN ASUNDER are moving from strength to strength, and are fast becoming one of Queensland’s fastest rising metal bands. In a recent radio interview they were described as one of the hardest working bands on the Queensland circuit, and it’s not hard to see why. In their first year alone, TORN ASUNDER played over 40 shows with bands from all over the country, in venues on the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Byron Bay and as far west as Toowoomba and Goondiwindi. Since the arrival of Locky Paul as frontman in January of this year, the TORN ASUNDER machine has been unstoppable. Locky’s 5 years of experience in one of Brisbane’s premier hardcore bands Re-Invention brought a new dimension to the group, and they gained momentum immediately. In their first live show with Locky, TORN ASUNDER qualified for the semi-finals of the Queensland Rock Competition. They would later qualify for the final, and finish runners-up in front of 50 other bands from across the state. TORN ASUNDER take pride in being different to anyone else. Although parts of their music can be described as brutal, it is Locky’s clean vocals that struck a chord with the wider community. It is not uncommon for the band to play acoustic sets, giving him the opportunity to raise goosebumps on listeners. Genres such as rap and reggae are also creeping into the band’s repituiore, further enhancing their uniqueness. TORN ASUNDER’s sophomore year as a band has seen them achieve many goals. The band’s debut EP has been recorded and will be released with a DVD in the coming months. Despite still being unreleased, already two songs have made their radio debut and continue to receive airplay across the country. An American station has also realised TORN ASUNDER's potentional and have added tracks to their rotation. The opening track ‘Elements’ was nominated for Queensland Independent Metal Song Of The Year at the Queensland Music Awards in August, finishing in the state’s top four songs. It has also hit the top 10 in Triple J's Unearthed Metal charts, while another 'Dearly Beloved' went to 1 on mp3.com.au. Since then, they have been made finalists for the MusicOz awards, also known as 'The Unsigned Arias.' It’s not only the music that makes TORN ASUNDER an exception. The band work hard to put on the most energetic and awe-inspiring shows possible, paying critical attention to their presence on stage. It is this passion that has seen them headline shows across the state over some of Queensland’s biggest metal acts and even bands that have taken the stage at the annual Big Day Out festival. TORN ASUNDER has also secured supporting roles with touring international acts, as well as playing alongside major local bands on a regular basis. There are still goals that TORN ASUNDER has yet to achieve, such as being selected on the line-up at next year’s annual OVERCRANKED and BIG DAY OUT festivals, among others. Any band in their second year wouldn’t even entertain the idea. But that is another thing that sets TORN ASUNDER apart from the rest: Their unrelenting will to succeed. And succeed they will.
