These Eyes Are Cameras
These Eyes Are Cameras, too, must go down as a name to watch in 2008. Six strong and fresh-faced, their songs carry baggage well beyond their years. The plaintive violin of Elena Argiros and the late night vocals of the interestingly tattooed Cavan Moran front a downbeat flavour of country, folk and blues whose closest contemporary in this city is probably Bone-box - a comparison not to be made lightly. Moran's careworn and heartfelt lyrics are as intoxicating as his half-whispered delivery, and when the equally talented "back four" shift up a gear, such as the quite brilliant “The Kings and Queens of Shambles” it's like the missing link between the Pogues and Arcade Fire. You didn't even know there was one? Maybe it's as much about their togetherness, the collective spirit behind them; this is the sound of romance on rain-lashed city streets, of a classic feel for melody which sounds old as the paving stones yet remarkably contemporary. - Manchester Music.
